The Sunday lecture was the Community's most public gathering, but it was not the whole of its life. Members and friends also met in smaller groups: to read a book together, argue about the news, watch a film, share a meal, or walk outdoors.
These activities did different work. They made room for people who were new, allowed quieter voices to be heard, and turned a membership list into a network of relationships. They also connected the Community to the wider civic and cultural life of Greater Boston.
Threads of community life
- Book discussion: reading and talking through a common text.
- Current events group: examining public questions together.
- Movie group: film and conversation.
- Pot luck suppers: hospitality and shared meals.
- Nature walks: attention to the living world.
- Weddings and ceremonies: marking important passages.
The Community's most recent public notice reports that Sunday meetings are suspended. The activity pages are archive notes, not a current calendar.
